Shadow work is the process of uncovering the parts of yourself that you've been hiding away

Humans have a fundamental need to connect and be accepted by their peers, our very survival depends on it.

Growing up in a society, we learn at a young age to hide aspects of ourselves that lead to rejection or isolation of any kind.

In a tribal setting, we need to be accepted by our tribe in order to be connected and therefore protected by our peers. The more loved we are, the safer we are.

So if there are any parts of ourselves that are misunderstood, different or rejected by our tribe, we reject them within ourselves.

As we grow older, this inner rejection can lead us to feel disconnected and lacking in some way, causing emotional pain and spiritual fragmentation.

In order to heal and integrate these aspects of our authentic selves, it is essential to witness these parts and love ourselves back to wholeness.

Doing shadow work leads us to become more self-aware and understand our own motivations and actions.

When practicing shadow work, we learn what situations, beliefs and thoughts led us to abandoning aspects of ourselves and this process helps develop emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence is the deeper understanding of how we function, as an individual but also as a collective.

Human behave according to certain patterns. Recognising the pattern enables us to see ourselves and others with more compassion and thus, grow our conscious awareness.

Shadow work can be difficult, but it's worth it to get to know yourself better

Developing self awareness gives us the power of choice: we can either choose to continue playing out an unconscious pattern or we can choose to take our power back and make a conscious decision to start living on our own terms.

In order to gain that power, we need to really lean into the discomfort of witnessing ourselves.

There are many ways to do shadow work, some of the most effective are journaling, meditation and hypnotherapy.

Journaling is a written record of events, thoughts, and feelings that can help you process your emotions, boost your mental health, and improve your self awareness.

Meditation is a valuable skill and practice that can assist in clearing the mind of scattered thoughts and train the brain into functioning optimally.

One thing to consider when doing shadow work is that the reason we call it "shadow" is because it's the parts of ourselves we are hiding... from ourselves.

We often cannot see what is right in from of us so it can be extremely valuable to find a mentor to guide us through the process of self-awareness with confidence and compassion.
