Working with the moon cycles for healing and creativity

It’s no secret that the moon cycle has a significant impact on the Earth and its environment. The moon's gravitational pull affects the Earth's oceans, tides, and even the atmosphere. As inhabitants of this earth, our bodies, emotions and biological rhythms are also affected by these forces. We can learn how to harness this energy and work with it rather than against it.

Read on to discover why and how to enjoy more ease and flow in your life

How the moon cycle affects our physical body.

The moon's gravitational pull creates a tidal force that affects the Earth's oceans (the element of water). This force causes the oceans to rise and fall in a regular pattern, resulting in high and low tides.

Our physical bodies are composed of approximately 70% water so it’s no surprise that a force powerful enough to move the ocean also affects our bodies.

On a metaphysical level, the element of water is often associated with emotions in spiritual practices.

Water is seen as a symbol of the emotional body, and it is believed that the energy of water can help to cleanse, purify, and balance our emotions.

As the element of water rises and falls (like the tides), it can be intentionally used to clear emotions from physical body that manifest as tension, chronic pain and tightness.

The moon's gravitational pull also affects the Earth's atmosphere, causing it to bulge slightly towards the moon. This can impact weather patterns and atmospheric pressure, particularly during the new and full moons.

When the Barometric Pressure is high, the pressure pushes more against our body and limits how much tissue can expand.

On the other hand, when the atmosphere's air pressure is low, it allows our body's tissues to expand more—putting more pressure on nerves and other parts of our body.

The connective tissues, joints and fascia in the physical body are known to hold trauma and be affected by the atmosphere and cause discomfort.

The moon cycle also has an impact on biological rhythms, both in humans and in other animals. Some animals, such as sea turtles, use the moon cycle to navigate and find their way back to their nesting sites. In humans, the lunar cycle can affect sleep patterns, hormone levels, and menstrual cycles.

Within Heartscaping, we practice not only emotional clearing techniques and tools for personal and spiritual growth, but also yin yoga to help support the body to release tension stored in the connective tissues and access for ease and flow.

Working with moon cycles for creativity and healing can be a powerful practice for connecting with the natural rhythms of the universe and harnessing the energy of the moon.

However, it can be really confusing to know where to start and how.

Here are some simple prompts to work with each phase of the moon cycle to enhance your creativity and deepen your healing journey.

New Moon: Set intentions 🌑

The new moon (also called Dark Moon) is a time of new beginnings and fresh starts.

This phase is often used for inner reflection, meditation, and setting intentions for the creative process.

Take time to reflect on what you want to create or manifest in your life and set clear intentions for the creative process.

Waxing Moon: Take action 🌓

The waxing moon is a time of growth and expansion. It is a time for taking action on the intentions set during the new moon phase and for nurturing the creative projects or ideas that were initiated.

This phase is often used for brainstorming, planning, and taking inspired action on your creative projects.

Full Moon: Celebrate 🌕

The full moon is a time of culmination and celebration. It is a time for embracing the fruits of creative labor and expressing gratitude for the abundance and blessings in one's life.

This phase is often used for creative expression, celebration, and manifestation.

Waning Moon: Release 🌗

The waning moon is a time of release and letting go. It is a time for releasing any emotional or energetic blocks that may be holding individuals back from accessing their creative potential.

This phase is often used for journaling, releasing negative emotions, and letting go of limiting beliefs. It’s also a time of increased energy, where we can "get shit done” and tie up loose ends before the beginning of the new cycle.

Rituals are a powerful way to connect with the moon cycles and build momentum through regular self care practices.

Creating a ritual to honour the moon cycles can be a powerful way to connect with the energy of the moon and enhance your creativity and healing as this process acknowledges that we are all part of Nature and can allow our lives to be supported by the natural cycles and , instead of forcing and striving to meet external measures of success.
